107.7 The End has your summer job

Ok, the End's got a new contest going on where they'll pay the lucky winner to drive all over the country for 2 months (July 9th to September 5th) and go to 16 concerts along the way, including 2 Warped Tour stops, Lollapaloza in Chicago, Green Day in Nashville, a couple of White Stripes shows, System of a Down, Beck, The Killers, Coldplay etc.

This winner will be able to take along an "Assistant" and both will be granted access to the shows, probably backstage as well, will be encouraged to take pictures and talk to the bands, keep up a blog while on the road (car and gas card will be supplied by the station), check in with the Morning Alternative and review the shows (Cell phone also included), and on top of this, both people will be paid.

Having carefully read through the rules, I applied. This is set up somewhat as a job, since the station will pay the winner, so everyone has to fill out an application and maybe make it to the interview round, which takes place live on the air. Anyway, I applied and was called in to an interview this morning. I was their second interview of 10 or 12 or so (they're doing 2 a day) and I feel pretty good about it. I got stuck on one question during the "lightning round" and we ended up with some dead air because of it, but I'm hoping that others will screw up worse, or just as bad, and apart from this one little mishap the interview went very well! Jennifer White even noticed my Pukkelpop bracelet, which has yet to fall off, and that made for some interesting conversation on air, which Amanda seems to think gave me an edge?!

Anyway, they're going to announce the finalists on Friday, July 1st at 7:15 am, I think they said it was going to be 3 or 4 people, so I have a 25% or better chance of making it........we'll see what happens then! Wish me luck everybody!

Fighting the Foo in New Mexico

12:00 noon - We arrive at a parking lot at Seatac Airport, ready to check in with the Rhapsody people and ready to get going to Roswell to see the Foo Fighters.
3:00 PM - We finally board the private charter plane, about a hundred or so people who have won their way onto the plane through various radio stations, internet contests, and a handful of Microsoft people and reporters. As soon as we're on the plane, we get to meet Fred, the lovable blow-up alien who will guide us to Roswell. Fred poses for pictures with the passengers before being passed through the aircraft for all to sign, so that the Seattle plane, the coolest plane of them all, can give him to the Foo Fighters as we arrive.

7:00 PM - We touch down in Roswell, and the plane rolls right up to Hangar 85, where the other three planes are already waiting for us latecomers (one from LA, one from New York and one from Minneapolis). We join the BBQ, which is already in progress (it started at 6:30) and are immediately handed freebies like baseball caps and T-shirts. As we enter the Hangar, a slightly disheveled Taylor Hawkins comes towards us, eagerly signing anything the people hold in front of him and posing for pictures; of course I had to indulge!
Unfortunately, as we arrived a little late, I didn't get to see the other three members of the band, who I'm sure were running around liek Taylor to meet the fans. By the time we entered the hangar and had gotten ourselves settled, they had probably retired to their private jets (parked right next to the hangar by our planes) and were enjoying the BBQ, relaxing before the show.
9:00 PM - The lights dim and the Foo's take the stage, ready to rock our socks off. The laid down anamazing one and a half hour set, belting out old favorites like "For all the Cows" and "Learn to Fly" as well as a nice selection from disc 1 of In your Honor. Unfortunately, they didn't play any of the accoustic songs from disc 2, which I believe would've made for a great encore (not that their encore wasn't great!) Memorable moments of the evening include Dave apologizing for the lack of alcohol and promising us that he'd buy us a round of shots the next time he sees us, before exclaiming "'Cause I'm sure I'll never see any of you motherfuckers ever again!" He also stopped the show to let a fan propose to his Girlfriend (who said yes) and during "Stacked Actors" Dave dissappeared from the stage only to re-appear in the middle of the crowd, walking towards the back, grabbing a chair and jamming for five minutes standing on said chair, facing the stage, surrounded by eager fans with their cameras and camera phones held high.

11:00 PM - We all herd back towards our planes, which have been sitting on the runway waiting, as their crews enjoyed the festivities with us. After being handed a bag of goodies which included more shirts, another hat and the dualdisc version of the new album, we are off to our regular lives again.
3:00 AM - Back to reality as we get in our cars and drive home, an amazing day stuck in our minds forever!

Foo Fighters in Roswell New Mexico

If I haven't mentioned it before, I LOVE THE END!
A great radiostation and I win a bunch of great stuff. Today I won my way into the private 10th anniversary concert and BBQ that the Foo Fighters are putting on in Roswell, New Mexico on June 18th. Me and a guest (along with all the other winners) will be flown out to Roswell that morning, we will get a concert and food, and then be flown back home that night. I am so overly excited, it's not even funny!
Originally I had planned on taking Olivia, my sister, with me, since she'll fly into town the day before to visit us, but as I've just found out, I need to have legal paper works filled out, notarized and sent back to the concert people within 48 hours, and since she lives in Scotland, there's no way in hell that's gonna happen, unfortunately. So I'm going to take my wife, Amanda. I just hope Olivia isn't going to be too upset!?

CD 3-pack

Well, the Coldplay and White Stripes albums were released today, so I was finally able to go and pick up my CDs.
"Demon Days" by the Gorillaz is a great album. A little more hip-hoppy than the first one, but definitely a great one, with a bunch of guest artists, including Dennis Hopper who narrates one of the songs.

"Get behind me Satan" by the White Stripes has got to be my favorite out of the three I just got. It's amazing just how musically complex a band can get with just a piano and drumset, or guitar and drums....Jack and Meghan definitely are at the top of their game.

I hate Coldplay, they're probably one of, if not the, most overrated band ever. All their stuff sounds alike and it's not that good to begin with. I'm not even going to bother to unwrap the CD and listen to it (I've heard enough "sneak peaks" on the radio) I'm just going to give it away!

Hey, it was free and I'm very happy with the other two albums I got!
